Only 44 per cent of men and 37 per cent of women save cash by searching for better deals when their policy expires. Confused.com’s managing director Kate Armstrong says: ‘Insurance companies are constantly tinkering with their rates, so the one that was good for you last year may not be so good now.’ British drivers are shelling out a staggering pounds 3billion more than they need to insurers. And it could have been even worse had the European Commission not decided to drop plans to charge women drivers the same car insurance premiums as men – despite the fact they are safer drivers.
